Power NI Funds Mi.Mu Gloves for Drake Music NI Workshops
Power NI donated £1,000 to Drake Music NI to introduce Mi.Mu Gloves technology into accessible music workshops across Northern Ireland. The funding comes from the company's Brighter Communities initiative.
The gloves track hand and finger movements to generate digital sounds. Drake Music NI will use them in workshops in Belfast, Newry, and other locations. More than 600 participants with physical and cognitive disabilities will access the technology.
Drake Music NI has operated since 1992. The charity provides one-on-one tuition and group workshops to help people compose, collaborate, and perform music.
Natalie McCrory from Power NI appeared with Michelle McCormack, CEO of Drake Music NI, and charity volunteers, participants, and parents.
Ashleigh O’Neill, Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Power NI, stated that Drake Music NI ensures music-making opportunities for people of all abilities. She added that the gloves will create more pathways for musical expression in Northern Ireland.
Dr Michelle McCormack said the donation enables the charity to reach more individuals with the gloves. She noted that the technology allows people with various abilities to create music through movement.
Power NI supported more than 150 local groups over the past year. The company supplies 62 percent of Northern Ireland's domestic electricity market.
