Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon planning officers approved changes to a service station in Lurgan. The updates include building extensions, a shift from shop to off-licence, added car parking, and site works.

Jonathan McGrath of Armagh Road, Newry, submitted the application for Francis Street Service Station Ltd. The location holds a forecourt with petrol pumps and canopy, car wash, Vivo shop, and rear yard access.

A northern-side ground-floor extension adds 82 square metres, yielding 56 square metres of retail space and 20 square metres of storage. A rear ground-floor extension provides 30 square metres of storage, reached via the new area.

A side extension builds a first-floor office and storage totalling 41 square metres, topped with a front roof dormer. It aligns with the building's 6.2-metre ridge height. The rear extension ridge stands at three metres.

The current shop entrance closes to form a window. New double doors in the extension open to the retail and off-licence section. Four on-site buildings and stores face demolition, with one oil tank shifting position.

Fourteen parking spaces appear at the rear. Forecourt and access remain as is. Officers noted the retail addition addresses day-to-day local needs in the vicinity.

Planning staff assessed the two-storey side and rear extensions as matching the original building's scale. They determined the work preserves the site's layout and the area's character. DfI Roads endorsed the parking setup, citing single-floor retail access.
