Sinn Féin Holds Easter Commemoration in Rosslea, Fermanagh
Sinn Féin organised its main Easter commemoration for Fermanagh in Rosslea on Easter Sunday. Party representatives and local community members attended the event.
Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Áine Murphy gave the keynote address. Jemma Dolan MLA chaired the proceedings.
The event started with Jimmy Cosgrove reading the 1916 Proclamation. Oliver McCaffrey read the Fermanagh Roll of Honour.
Participants laid wreaths at the Roslea Martyrs Monument. The monument commemorates United Irishmen Bernard McMahon, Patrick Smyth and John Connolly, who were executed in Enniskillen in 1797 and buried in Rosslea.
A parade through Rosslea village preceded the platform speeches. A colour party and St Mary's Mountain Road Pipe Band led the parade.
Áine Murphy spoke about honouring those from 1916 and later generations. She noted the historical significance of the Roslea volunteers and the 1797 martyrs.
Murphy addressed the upcoming thirtieth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. She stated that the agreement provided a democratic path to shape Ireland's future.
She highlighted partition's effects on border communities like Roslea, including underfunded services and economic neglect.
Murphy affirmed support for Palestinians amid their ongoing conflict. She reiterated Sinn Féin's goal of a united Ireland.
