A black Labrador named Bella fell into the River Mourne in Strabane last week during a walk on the Upper Main Street river walkway. Owner Stacey Kelly called for help around 7.20pm after the dog struggled in the strong current due to her age and arthritis.

People drinking at the Bowling Green Bar heard Kelly's shouts and ran to assist, initially thinking a person was in the water. Kelly's mother and neighbour Gary joined the effort, and a passing police patrol stopped after being flagged down.

The fire brigade arrived as the dog grew tired. Local resident Brandon Lynch spotted Bella on a small island near the water wall and alerted rescuers. Firefighters used a ladder to retrieve the cold and wet dog.

Kelly reunited with Bella on the riverbank. She praised Lynch and all involved for their quick response.
