Minister launches children's activity book at Carrickfergus Library
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has launched a new activity book for children at Carrickfergus Library.
The book, titled 'Activity Book for Kids', is produced by the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and aims to introduce children to archives through colouring, brain teasers, and other interactive features.
Speaking at the launch, Lyons said the book supports his department's commitment to lifelong learning and participation in culture and heritage. He noted that the activities can be enjoyed by young people or those young at heart with an interest in people and places.
The launch was part of the PRONI on Tour initiative, which brings PRONI staff, documents, and resources to libraries across Northern Ireland through a partnership with Libraries NI.
Zoe Harkness, the book's author and a PRONI staff member, said an interactive activity book is a good way to introduce young audiences to archives in a fun and inclusive manner.
Jim O'Hagan, Chief Executive of Libraries NI, said the partnership connects communities with Northern Ireland's history and heritage, and the new book offers another way to encourage curiosity and discovery from an early age.
Pupils from Carrickfergus Integrated Primary School attended the launch.
The Activity Book for Kids is available at PRONI in Titanic Quarter and at PRONI on Tour library visits.
