Three road improvement schemes announced for Northern Ireland
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced three road improvement schemes across Northern Ireland, with a combined investment of £1.785 million. The works are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.
In Lisburn, a £757,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Belsize Road will cover the stretch between Kirkwood's Road and Boomers Road, including improvements to kerbs and footways. Off-peak lane closures will operate daily from 9:30am to 4:30pm, with road closures required towards the end of the scheme. Subject to favourable weather, the works are expected to be substantially complete by March 17, 2027.
In Strabane, a £790,000 flood alleviation scheme for the Ballycolman Estate will include a new carriageway drainage system, a storm water storage facility, and resurfacing of affected roads. The scheme aims to address flooding issues for residents. Road and lane closures will be necessary, and works are expected to be substantially complete by March 31, 2027.
In Ballycastle, a £238,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme will improve Leyland Road Roundabout and Leyland Road, covering approximately 0.3 kilometres. Road closures will operate daily from 9:00am to 4:45pm from October 19 to October 29, with signed diversionary routes in place. Works are expected to be substantially complete by October 29, 2026.
Minister Kimmins said the investments will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users, and thanked the public for their patience. The Department for Infrastructure has programmed operations to minimise inconvenience, but road users should expect delays and allow extra time for journeys.
