A DUP MLA has called for progress on the A4 Enniskillen Bypass following the outcome of the legal challenge to the A5 road scheme. Deborah Erskine, MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, said the court decision should allow other major road projects to move forward, including the Enniskillen Bypass.

The A4 scheme had been paused pending the outcome of the A5 court appeal, according to Erskine. She said she sought clarity from the Department for Infrastructure on when the project would receive final approval.

Erskine said she had lobbied for the bypass and secured confirmation within the past month that funding had been reinstated and the project had progressed to a Notice of Intention to Award the contract. She questioned what was preventing the project from moving to the next stage.

The MLA said she raised the issue directly with the Infrastructure Minister on Tuesday and pledged to continue pressing for answers. She said she would continue demanding progress until there was a clear announcement and tarmac was laid on the road.

Erskine stated that the bypass was badly needed to improve infrastructure in Enniskillen, and that the project had been awaited for decades. The A4 Enniskillen Bypass is a proposed road scheme intended to improve traffic movement around the town.
