InterTradeIreland Launches Three-Year Strategy Amid Record All-Island Trade
InterTradeIreland launched a three-year corporate strategy on March 25. The strategy covers 2026 to 2028. It aims to increase all-island economic opportunities and develop a more connected economy across the island of Ireland.
All-island trade hit a record €17 billion, or £14.6 billion. The strategy aligns with government programmes in Northern Ireland and Ireland. It focuses on four priorities: leading economic collaboration, boosting competitiveness and productivity, driving trade, and accelerating entrepreneurship and enterprise growth.
Northern Ireland Minister for the Economy Dr Caoimhe Archibald MLA welcomed the strategy. Ireland Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke TD also welcomed it. InterTradeIreland Chief Executive Margaret Hearty spoke at the launch.
InterTradeIreland has supported over 65,000 businesses in 26 years. Many now compete globally. Most cross-border traders later export off-island. Its research shows cross-border exporters lead peers in growth, profitability and sales.
The organisation was set up in 1999 under Strand Two of the Belfast Good Friday Agreement. Funding comes from Northern Ireland's Department for the Economy and Ireland's Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. It has a mandate to lead all-island economic collaboration.
