Business Group Supports Department for Infrastructure Road Safety Drive
Business in the Community Northern Ireland has endorsed the Department for Infrastructure's Share the Road to Zero campaign. The group urges employers across Northern Ireland to promote safer driving practices to reduce deaths and serious injuries on local roads.
Dr Lisa McIlvenna, Managing Director at Business in the Community Northern Ireland, stated that the organisation and its partners support the campaign to assist businesses in advancing safer driving. She noted that more than 800,000 people work in Northern Ireland and that the group has collaborated with businesses on road safety for three years. McIlvenna added that business leaders show commitment by influencing attitudes and prompting greater care on roads. She said such discussions at work and home contribute to fewer fatalities and safer arrivals.
The campaign emphasises personal responsibility for drivers. It calls on employers to implement safer driving policies, increase staff awareness and integrate positive road behaviours into operations.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins thanked Business in the Community Northern Ireland for its backing and for recognising the business role in road safety leadership. Kimmins pointed out that over 95% of road deaths result from human error. She stated that personal responsibility by all road users can lower fatalities and enhance safety.
Other supporters of Share the Road to Zero include sporting bodies, emergency services, councils and community partners. They all promote greater care to prevent road tragedies in Northern Ireland.
