Business Group Backs Department for Infrastructure Road Safety Drive
Business in the Community Northern Ireland signed up to the Department for Infrastructure's Share the Road to Zero road safety campaign. The group aims to help businesses promote safer driving among over 800,000 employees across Northern Ireland.
Dr. Lisa McIlvenna, Managing Director at Business in the Community Northern Ireland, stated that the organisation has worked with businesses on road safety for three years. She noted that leaders show commitment by shaping attitudes and encouraging care on roads. She added that discussions at work and home can reduce fatalities.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins thanked the group for its support. She said more than 95% of road deaths result from human error. She called on everyone to take personal responsibility to make roads safer.
The campaign urges employers to adopt safer driving policies and raise staff awareness. Business in the Community Northern Ireland joins sporting bodies, emergency services, councils and community partners in backing the effort.
In a separate visit, Minister Kimmins went to St. Mary’s Primary School in Rathfriland. She observed Year 7 pupils Lucas and Jane serving as Junior Road Safety Officers.
