Cacace Claims Second World Boxing Title in Dublin Card
Anthony Cacace from Andersonstown in Belfast defeated Jazza Dickens from Liverpool to win the WBA super featherweight world title. The bout took place Saturday night at the 3Arena in Dublin. Cacace earned the unanimous decision over 12 rounds.
Dickens defended his title, which he received full status in December after Lamont Roach Jr vacated it. Cacace, aged 37, secured his second world championship. He thanked his team including Micky Hawkins Snr, Micky Hawkins Jnr, Ruairi Dalton, Barry ONeill, and promoter Frank Warren after the win.
Cacace used his height advantage with a sharp jab and precise shots. He remained composed despite a cut from a head clash in the ninth round. Dickens pressed forward in several rounds but Cacace stayed busier overall.
On the undercard, Belfast's Colm Murphy fought Dublin's Jono Carroll for the vacant IBO super featherweight title. Murphy entered with a 16-0 record. Carroll held a 25-3-1 record. Carroll won by split decision after 12 rounds.
Murphy, seven years younger than Carroll, used his height and stayed patient. He last fought in February to claim the Commonwealth featherweight title. Carroll's previous fight was a unanimous decision win over Alexander Prado in Dubai one year ago.
Carl Frampton scored the first eight rounds even from ringside.
