Jefferson John Watters, 57, of Lewis Park in Ballymena, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on March 12. He faces charges related to possessing indecent images of children between February 5 and 12.

A police officer stated in court that community tensions are elevated in the area. The officer added that returning to his address would not be advisable for Watters' safety.

A defence solicitor noted community difficulties surrounding the defendant. The solicitor mentioned graffiti on walls.

The court granted Watters bail of £500 at an address approved by police. Conditions include no entry to Ballymena, no internet access, and no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

The case is adjourned until March 26.
