A Lurgan man has been jailed for six months after admitting a series of offences at his family home in August.

Nathan Power, 28, of Springwell Gardens, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court by video link from Maghaberry Prison.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault, one count of criminal damage aggravated by domestic abuse, and two counts of breaching a restraining order.

The court heard that police were called to a property in Springwell Gardens on 8 August following reports of an ongoing issue.

Power's father told police he had been in Newcastle when he received a call from his son asking for money and other items. He began receiving Ring doorbell notifications that someone was at the door.

On returning home, he found Power intoxicated in the rear garden, punching the garden wall. Power became abusive towards his sister and threw brackets at her. He then went to the front of the property and damaged the Ring doorbell.

A defence barrister said Power accepted responsibility at an early stage and had no memory of the incident due to alcohol consumption. She said he had a history of alcohol and substance abuse and had been reflecting while in custody.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan said Power would have faced up to 18 months if convicted after contesting the charges. He imposed concurrent six-month sentences on each charge and ordered payment of the £25 offender levy. A four-month suspended sentence was also activated but is to run concurrently.
