Ballymena Man Sentenced for Assault and Harassment, Ordered to Pay Compensation
A 35-year-old Ballymena man has been sentenced for assault, harassment, criminal damage and attempted criminal damage after a series of incidents last October.
The charges relate to events on October 4, 2024, when David Greer, of Parkmount Crescent, threw drink around a woman at a property and refused to leave. When she contacted police, he departed but later made repeated phone calls, sent text messages and Facebook messages containing obscene language.
He also visited the address of the woman’s brother and kicked a door, threatening to break it down. Doorbell camera footage from the woman’s own home captured him damaging a door and a vehicle, as well as throwing a bin at a kitchen window.
At Ballymena Magistrates Court on June 4, District Judge Nigel Broderick described the behaviour as appalling, noting the abusive language and litany of threats made by the defendant.
The judge stated there was every reason to impose a custodial sentence but instead handed down an Enhanced Combination Order requiring 100 hours of community service and 18 months of probation supervision. Greer was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation, and a two-year restraining order was imposed.
