UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Lisburn this week. A journalist asked him about the Irish legal action against the UK. Starmer replied that he focuses on building relations and solving problems between the UK and Ireland. Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn noted that the amnesty plan lacked support from Northern Ireland parties.
Starmer attended a summit with Irish leaders in Cork the following day.
Ulster Unionist leader Jon Burrows met Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee at Stormont this week. Burrows stated that the UK should sue Ireland instead.
Former Irish Justice Minister Michael McDowell said in 2021 that Dublin provided a de facto amnesty to the IRA after its 1990s ceasefires.
Ireland refused 103 out of 110 extradition requests to Northern Ireland from 1973 to 1997.
