Lisburn Council Addresses Utility Damage to Pathways
A councillor from Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council raised concerns about utility companies damaging footpaths in Lisburn. Downshire East DUP councillor Uel Mackin addressed the regeneration and growth committee on the issue.
Mackin pointed to work on Bridge Street where companies dug up areas for cables and materials. He stated that the firms fill holes after work, leaving the public realm in poor condition. He noted that a good public realm attracts visitors and shoppers to the city.
Mackin asked what the council could do to address the problem. A council officer replied that the council is in contact with the Department for Infrastructure. The officer mentioned difficulties in adopted footpath areas and also noted heavy goods vehicle lorries contributing to damage.
