A DUP councillor in Mid Ulster has raised concerns with the Department for Infrastructure after observing a pothole repair that deteriorated soon after completion.

At a recent council meeting, the representative described seeing a repair that had been done to a poor standard and subsequently failed. He argued that all road repairs must meet the correct standard, noting that residents pay road tax and general taxation.

The councillor asked that council officials contact local DfI representatives to explain why spray-based pothole repairs are used instead of traditional patching. He also sought assurance on how the department ensures repairs are durable.

No response from the DfI was recorded at the meeting. The department is responsible for maintaining the road network across Northern Ireland.
