Donaghadee Event Remembers Murdered Mother Sarah Montgomery
Donaghadee residents attended a community event on Tuesday evening to remember Sarah Montgomery, a 27-year-old pregnant mother of two killed at her Elmfield Walk home on June 27. The event, hosted by the Donaghadee Community Development Association with Women’s Aid and the PSNI, focused on raising awareness of domestic abuse.
Sarah Montgomery's grandfather, Arthur Arbuckle, addressed attendees through a recorded interview. He described the family's ongoing trauma since her death and praised the town's support, which has helped during difficult times.
A man from Belfast remains on remand, charged with her murder and child destruction. She was 34 weeks pregnant with a boy named Liam Arthur.
Arbuckle noted his granddaughter's strong devotion to her daughters, aged nearly eight and six, who are now cared for by close family members. He visits her grave daily and said the family, including his wife Edith, has coped under pressure amid prior health issues.
He highlighted the community's assistance from residents and businesses as significant. Arbuckle stressed the importance of the event in spreading awareness about domestic abuse's impact on families and communities, and in encouraging people to report concerns to potentially save lives.
Sisters Joanne Dorrian and Michelle Dorrian, relatives of missing Bangor woman Lisa Dorrian, attended to show solidarity. They stated their sister likely knew her killer and that supporting other local families affected by violence matters.
