A coffee morning in Fermanagh marking the first birthday of Olivia Erskine raised more than £7,500 for two charities that supported her family during her treatment for a heart condition.

Olivia was born prematurely at 32 weeks with supraventricular tachycardia, a condition causing an abnormally fast heart rate. During her first week she required defibrillation 13 times.

Her mother, DUP MLA Deborah Erskine, said the family had been uncertain whether Olivia would survive to come home from hospital.

The proceeds from the event, held on Saturday, are to be split between the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Children's Heartbeat Trust. More than £4,400 was raised at the coffee morning itself, with online and other donations taking the total above £7,500.

Ms Erskine said the family had been overwhelmed by the support, describing the day as emotional but happy. She thanked staff from the neonatal unit and the Clark Clinic at the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children for their care.
