A Portglenone woman has been fined £300 and banned from driving for a year after admitting to driving while unfit through drugs.

Nicola Shaw, 39, of Chesney Crescent, Portglenone, admitted the charge at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court. The offence occurred on March 22 on the Randalstown Road, Antrim.

The court heard that police spotted a BMW veering across white lines and followed the vehicle. When stopped, Shaw told officers she had taken cannabis that morning and said she was addicted to the drug.

A blood sample confirmed the presence of cannabis.

A defence solicitor said Shaw regretted the offence.

Alongside the one-year driving ban, she was fined £300.
