Enniskillen Woman Vera Devers Buried After Service at Rossorry Parish Church
Vera Georgina Jane Devers died at Tilery Care Home in Florencecourt at the age of almost 96. A service of thanksgiving took place at Rossorry Parish Church in Enniskillen, followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard. W.T. Morrison Funeral Directors of Ballycassidy House handled arrangements, with Keith Elliott involved.
She was the wife of the late Albert Devers, mother of Alan Devers, mother-in-law of Lorraine, and grandmother of Tara and Shane. Alan Devers spoke at the service and recounted her first day at Tilery Care Home, when she asked Keith Elliott for a lift home.
Born into a family of 13 in Cappog near Enniskillen, she spent part of her childhood in Lisbellaw with her aunt Emma Weir. Her jobs included time at a Wool Shop in Enniskillen and later positions at Erne Hospital, where she served many years as warden of the nurses home.
She married Albert Devers on April 19, 1952, at Rossorry Parish Church. The couple lived together for 65 years, first at Ashwoods, then Henry Street, and finally Cooper Crescent in Enniskillen, where she resided independently until three years ago. She counted Edna Young, Joan Wilson, and Molly Harte among her friends there.
An Anglican and supporter of Rossorry Parish Church, she arranged flowers, helped found the Rossorry Amateur Dramatic Society, and worked with the Mothers Union at parish and diocesan levels. Family included her grandchildren Tara and Shane, along with nephews and nieces.
