Derry Tower Museum Staff Gather to Mark End of 30-Year Exhibition
Staff members past and present from Derry's Tower Museum attended an event to recognise 30 years of the 'Story of Derry' exhibition. The gathering occurred as the exhibition shut down prior to transferring collections to the new DNA Museum at Ebrington.
The exhibition launched in 1992 and presented Derry's history through displays, tours, school programmes and community activities. Derry and Strabane Mayor Councillor Ruairi McHugh addressed attendees and thanked guides, learning staff, curators, archivists, volunteers and managers for their work. He noted their efforts created a lasting impact that will continue at the new venue.
Museum Service Manager Margaret Edwards stated that schools and community groups made final visits in recent weeks. She highlighted the team's role in sharing the city's history with locals and tourists and affirmed their commitment to the collections during the transition.
Edwards added that the group aims to maintain heritage while updating visitor experiences for the future.
A panel discussion on heritage legacy and transition takes place on March 29 in the Guildhall, with participants from heritage, tourism, museums and cultural sectors. The public can visit the exhibition one final time on April 26.
