IFA Absent from Initial Discussions on Ulster Sports Legacy Project at Lisburn Council
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council's communities committee received an update on the Ulster Sports Legacy programme. The initiative plans a museum featuring virtual and physical exhibits on sporting achievements at local, regional and national levels. It also includes a Hall of Fame.
The council's director of communities held talks with project representatives in November 2025. Lady Mary Peters, a director of the community interest company, opened those discussions. Initial round table sessions involved the GAA and Ulster Rugby.
Castlereagh South DUP councillor Brian Higginson expressed concern over the absence of the Irish Football Association from the Ulster Sports Legacy project.
A council officer stated that invitations for the round table discussions were sent to various organisations. The groups that attended responded first to those invitations.
Killultagh DUP councillor Thomas Beckett pointed to Northern Ireland's achievements in snooker and boxing.
