Teenage Father from Lurgan Fined for Breaching Contact Ban in Craigavon Court
A 19-year-old man from Birchdale Manor in Lurgan pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates Court to breaching a Non-Molestation Order. The incident took place on November 18 of last year.
Cory Williams faced charges after his ex-partner reported receiving multiple calls from an unknown number over two-and-a-half hours. She answered several times and recognised his voice when he spoke.
The woman told police the calls continued even after she reminded him of the court order prohibiting contact. He asked her to call him back and pleaded to speak with her. She blocked the number after 14 calls in total.
Williams admitted the calls during a police interview. He stated he had a bad day and wanted to talk to her and their one-year-old son.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan called the actions pestering but noted they fell toward the lower end of seriousness. The judge stressed that breaching a court order remains a grave matter.
Williams' barrister John Paul McCann said his client sought contact with the child as no formal arrangement existed then. McCann added that Williams works for a cosmetics firm earning about £700 weekly and assured no repeat.
The court imposed a £350 fine on Williams plus a £15 offender levy.
