Teenage Father Fined for Breaching Contact Ban in Co Armagh Court
A 19-year-old man from Birchdale Manor in Lurgan, Co Armagh pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates Court to breaching a Non-Molestation Order. The incident took place on November 18 of last year.
The court learned that the woman received 14 calls from an unknown number over two-and-a-half hours. She answered several times and recognised the male voice as her former partner's. In one call, the man asked her to ring his number and pleaded to speak with her after she mentioned the order.
Police interviewed the man, Cory Williams, who admitted placing the calls. He stated he had a bad day and wanted to talk but did not intend to harass her.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan called the actions pestering but noted the breach fell toward the lower end of seriousness. Williams's barrister, John Paul McCann, said his client sought contact with their one-year-old son and recognised his error. McCann added that Williams works for a cosmetics firm earning about £700 weekly.
The judge imposed a fine of £350 plus a £15 offender levy on Williams.
