Armagh Council Starts Public Input on Gaol Site Redevelopment
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council launched a community engagement process to guide the Armagh Gaol Transformation Project. The initiative invites residents, organisations, businesses and stakeholders to sessions over the coming months.
An open day for public input runs on Saturday, March 14, from 10am to 3pm. Booking is required via the council's website at www.armaghbanbridgecraigavon.gov.uk/armaghgaol. Carlin Planning facilitates the sessions for the council; contact info@carlinplanning.com for details.
The gaol site, vacant since 1986 and council-owned since 1997, overlooks The Mall in Armagh City. Past regeneration efforts stalled, but the Mid South West Growth Deal now supports a mixed-use plan for long-term viability.
Armagh Place Plan lists the site as a priority to diversify uses into a multifunctional space aiding economic, social and cultural activity. The project aligns with the MSW Regional Economic Strategy to boost growth across the region through council, government and partner investments.
Feedback from engagement will shape proposals and the project business case, positioning the gaol to enhance Armagh as a cultural destination alongside its historic assets.
