Review Ordered for Traffic Lights at Strabane A5 Junction
An assessment is underway at one of Strabane's busiest junctions, the Urney Road and Great Northern Link intersection on the A5 road.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins responded to a written question from Sinn Féin MLA Maolíosa McHugh, who described the junction as the most hazardous in Strabane. McHugh asked for a safety assessment, a review of traffic light timings for optimal A5 flow, and consideration of a filter light for turns from Urney Road onto the A5.
The junction handles thousands of vehicles daily as Strabane's main thoroughfare. Locals and politicians have raised concerns over years due to accidents and near misses.
Kimmins noted a recent error in vehicle detection caused delays on the A5, which officials have fixed. Signals now operate normally.
The minister confirmed a review of the junction's overall operation to check if further action is needed.
