Ards scored a late equaliser through Jamie Browne to draw 1-1 with Newry at Clandeboye Park on Saturday.

Newry took the lead in the 16th minute when Lorcan Forde broke clear and slid the ball past goalkeeper Matthews.

Ards struggled in the first half and were fortunate to be only one goal behind at the break.

They improved markedly in the second half, creating several excellent chances, but were denied repeatedly by Newry goalkeeper Craughwell.

Gordon, Browne, Maxwell and Martindale all saw efforts saved as Ards pressed for an equaliser.

The breakthrough came in the 89th minute when Browne headed in from a corner.

Ards manager John Bailie said afterwards that his team did not perform to their usual standards in the first half, but he was pleased with the second-half response.

Newry manager Darren Mullen felt his side should have been further ahead at half-time, but credited Ards for their second-half display.

Ards are next in action away to H&W Welders at Blanchflower Park.
