Alan Hutchinson has concluded his tenure as principal of Glastry College in Ballyhalbert, County Down, after almost 14 years in the role. He delivered his final prize day speech to students and staff, receiving a standing ovation.

Hutchinson has spent nearly 34 years in education overall. In his address, he reflected on his career and spoke of his continued enthusiasm for teaching, saying his passion for the profession remains as strong as when he began.

He highlighted the reward of seeing students develop from hesitant children into confident young adults and said he was especially proud of those who overcame difficult circumstances.

Hutchinson also used the occasion to call for a new school building. He said the current premises have been patched and repaired over the years but staff and students deserve better facilities.

He offered advice to students, encouraging them to maintain self-belief, continue learning, and be kind and generous to one another.

The principal's retirement takes effect at the end of the current academic year.
