Suspended jail term for Derry woman in street assault case
A Derry woman has been given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting her housemate in a street fight.
Caitlin Callaghan, 28, of Abercorn Road, admitted the offences which took place on October 29 last year.
Derry Magistrates’ Court heard that police were called to reports of two females fighting in the Abercorn Road area. CCTV footage showed Callaghan as the aggressor, punching, kicking and throwing the other woman to the ground.
Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the two women shared accommodation and that Callaghan felt she was 'not appreciated'. An argument followed that spilled into the street.
Callaghan was sentenced to one month in prison, suspended for 12 months, and given a conditional discharge.
