Several motorists in Coleraine, County Londonderry, have reported their vehicles developing mechanical problems after purchasing fuel from the same Asda petrol station.

Affected drivers described cars losing power, vibrating, and breaking down shortly after refueling. Sandra Reid said her car began to "chug along and struggle to accelerate" and eventually broke down after leaving the station.

Dean Law said two cars belonging to his girlfriend and sister broke down after they filled up at the station. He estimated he and his girlfriend have spent about £1,000 on mechanic bills after her car broke down on Monday when she was driving to work.

David Jardine, from Belfast, said he filled up his car at the station on Sunday night while on a family holiday on the north coast and broke down shortly afterwards in Portstewart. His car had to be towed back to Belfast and cost about £225 to fix.

Asda has apologised and is investigating what it called an "isolated incident" affecting some but not all fuel purchases made at the Coleraine site between 25 and 29 October. The company has reopened the majority of pumps and asked anyone experiencing issues to contact them.

East Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden said she received messages from constituents about the issue and welcomed Asda's response. She said it is important that others who fueled at the station are made aware of the potential problem.
