Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced three separate infrastructure schemes in Northern Ireland, with a combined investment of over £850,000.

In Derry, a £525,000 resurfacing project on the C572 Aileach Road will begin on Monday 28 September 2026. The work covers 730 metres of carriageway from the Aileach Road Roundabout. Lane closures will be in place during the works, and completion is expected by Friday 30 October 2026, subject to weather.

In Omagh, a £300,000 scheme on the C0663 Kevlin Road will also start on 28 September. The project includes approximately one kilometre of resurfacing and localised drainage improvements between Sunningdale and Dergmoney Heights. Temporary traffic management will be in operation until 29 October, with overnight closures on weekdays from 28 September to 16 October and 26 to 29 October, and daytime closures on 19 to 23 October. Signed diversions will be in place, and access to Sacred Heart College will be maintained via Kevlin Avenue and Kevlin Road.

In Belfast, work on an active travel project covering Durham Street and College Square North will begin on the same date as part of the Belfast Cycling Network. The scheme will upgrade existing cycling facilities to provide a two-way protected cycle lane, connecting the Grand Central Station project to College Street. A temporary one-way closure for northbound traffic will be in place, with a diversion via Grosvenor Road and College Square East. Completion is anticipated by early March.

Minister Kimmins said the investments demonstrate her commitment to improving the road network and creating safer infrastructure for walking, wheeling, and cycling. She thanked residents, businesses, and commuters for their patience.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and allow extra time when travelling near the works.
