Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £300,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme for Kevlin Road in Omagh, with work set to begin on Monday 28 September 2026.

The project covers approximately one kilometre of road between Sunningdale and Dergmoney Heights, and includes localised drainage improvements.

Minister Kimmins said the investment would deliver significant benefits for residents and road users, and expressed thanks to residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience during the works.

To facilitate the scheme, a series of temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place from 28 September to 29 October 2026.

Overnight full road closures will operate on weekdays from 28 September to 16 October and from 26 to 29 October, between 8pm and 7am. Daytime full closures will take place from 19 to 23 October, between 9.30am and 3pm. Daily lane closures will operate on weekdays from 28 September to 16 October and 26 to 29 October, between 9.30am and 3pm.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during full road closures. Local access for residents will be maintained, but delays are expected. The Department for Infrastructure said works are expected to be substantially complete by 29 October 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.

In a separate matter, police in Fermanagh and Omagh have issued a warning to drivers after reports of motorists ignoring a road closure on Strathroy Road, where work is ongoing.

Police said vehicles have been continuing towards the Gortin Road despite a full road closure in one direction. They described the behaviour as inherently dangerous, noting that drivers turning into Strathroy Road would not expect to encounter vehicles approaching at speed on the wrong side of the road.

At least two near misses have occurred, including incidents where vehicles mounted the footpath as pedestrians walked past. One pedestrian was wearing school uniform, according to police.

Motorists have been urged to drive considerately and use alternative routes. Police said a full road closure in both directions is now being considered, and warned that offenders risk penalty points and a fine.
