Police in Strabane have reported an increase in anti-social behaviour in the town, following an incident on Bradley Way last Friday, September 11. At around 6.20pm, officers responded to a report of a large plume of smoke in the area. Upon arrival, they encountered a group of young people.

Two fireworks were set off in the direction of the officers. A young male was arrested for assault on police and for possessing a firework without a licence. While at the scene, police also found a quantity of suspected stolen pallets, which were seized. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

A PSNI spokesperson said there has been a recent increase in anti-social behaviour in the Strabane area and appealed to anyone tempted to get involved to consider the impact on the community and the possible consequences. The spokesperson also urged parents and guardians to know where their children are and what they are doing.

Highlighting the dangers of fireworks, the police noted they are explosives that, when misused, can cause serious injuries. They also warned of the consequences of handling stolen property or engaging in anti-social behaviour.

Officers are carrying out high-visibility patrols in affected areas to reassure the public and deter further incidents. The public can report anti-social behaviour by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
