A Strabane woman has warned that her 87-year-old father is at risk of serious injury because the roads and common areas at the Hawthorn Grove development remain uncompleted.

Clare McKay said her father, Sammy, broke his hip in a fall at home and his doctor has advised short walks to rebuild strength. However, the unfinished surfaces around his house have made these outings hazardous.

“Every time he goes out the door we have hearts in our mouths,” she said, adding that she fears a further fall would be a major setback.

The site is owned by McGettigan Homes. In 2024, the company’s owner, Paul McGettigan, assured residents that common areas would be finished once the last houses and apartments were complete. Construction of the final dwellings ended last year, but residents say no further work has been carried out since.

Ms McKay stated that she has sent multiple emails to the developer requesting an update but has received no response. She said that when residents encounter McGettigan Homes staff, they are told work will start in “a couple of weeks”, a claim she described as unchanging.

The developer has since moved on to other projects, including luxury houses across the road and the Bracken Hill site.

Mr McGettigan did not respond to a request for comment before publication.
