Strabane Town Centre Faces Business Closures Amid Planned Investments
Five businesses in Strabane town centre plan to close or move. Clothing retailers Tru Glory and Jem, shoe shop Gormley's, and Card Land hold closing-down sales. B&M will shift to a new unit behind Lidl, retaining and adding jobs.
Dr Kieran Kennedy, chair of Strabane BID, stated the organisation supports businesses during this transition. He attributed some closures to retirement and noted the cost-of-doing-business crisis affects traders.
Dr Kennedy said Strabane BID lobbies for better support and rates reform. He described the town as at a turning point with over £140 million in investments from the Public Realm Scheme, Riverine cross-border project, and City Deal.
Strabane BID works with stakeholders to repurpose vacant units. The group develops a new five-year strategy to stabilise the town centre.
