Lisbellaw Pupil Donates Hair to Little Princess Trust
A Primary 6 pupil from Lisbellaw has donated her hair to a charity that provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their hair through illness.
Grace Johnston, who attends Lisbellaw Primary School, had her hair cut in school on Monday at 9.30am in front of fellow pupils. The cut locks were given to The Little Princess Trust, a UK charity that supplies free wigs to young people affected by cancer treatment or alopecia and funds childhood cancer research.
Grace decided to make the donation after seeing the impact a wig had on her classmate Will Crawford. Will developed alopecia and received a hairpiece through the Trust, which his family said had been deeply distressing for him at a young age.
Following the cut, Grace’s mother Liz Johnston said her daughter was happy with her new shorter style. Grace said she hoped to grow her hair long enough to donate again before finishing primary school.
As well as the hair donation, Grace is raising money for the charity. Funds contributed help cover the cost of wig-making and fitting, as well as research into pediatric cancers.
Donations can be made through Grace’s fundraising page or via collection boxes at the school. The family has thanked the community for its support.
