The Day of Reflection was observed on Sunday 21 June, marking an occasion to remember all those affected by the conflict in Northern Ireland.

Chief Constable Jon Boutcher noted that the observance stemmed from one of the recommendations he made in the Kenova Report. The day is set on the longest day of the year.

He described it as an opportunity for communities to recall the Troubles with dignity and respect, and to recognise the suffering experienced by many.

The Chief Constable said the day allows for reflection on and remembrance of lost loved ones, and acknowledgment of those who sustained life-changing physical and psychological injuries because of the past conflict.

He described it as a time to remember all whose lives were ended, altered or permanently affected by the violence.

Mr Boutcher added that he continues to meet regularly with families who lost relatives or suffered injury, and that they remain in his thoughts.
