Social prescribing programme in Mid and East Antrim presented at all-Ireland conference
The IMPACTAgewell programme, which connects older people to community activities and support across Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus, was presented at the All-Ireland Social Prescribing Conference in Dundalk on 11 June.
The programme works through partnerships with GP practices, community pharmacies, the local health trust and voluntary organisations. It links individuals to local services, social opportunities and practical help aimed at reducing isolation and improving wellbeing.
Catriona Delargy, from the IMPACTAgewell team, told the conference that the approach helps older people build relationships, access advice and gain confidence. Participants are referred to services such as Good Morning schemes, advice services and social activity clubs.
Reported outcomes include increased physical activity, reduced loneliness, greater independence and better access to information and support. The programme is designed to help people remain active and engaged within their communities.
The conference brought together organisations from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to share knowledge on social prescribing approaches.
