Police in west Belfast are investigating a number of separate violent incidents over the weekend, resulting in multiple hospitalisations and several arrests.

On Friday 12 June around 9pm, a 30-year-old man was assaulted outside licensed premises on Suffolk Road. The man sustained serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody. A 46-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were later arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm; they have been released on bail pending further enquiries. Detectives say the assailant arrived and left by taxi, and there may have been an earlier verbal altercation inside the premises. The investigation reference is 1174 13/06/26.

A separate assault is believed to have occurred in the Milford Street area near St Peter's Cathedral between 9pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday. A 38-year-old man was admitted to hospital on Saturday afternoon with significant lacerations to his arm. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and any CCTV or mobile phone footage. On Sunday 14 June at around 9.55pm, officers responded to a report of a man struck with a shovel and a metal pole on Lady Street. Armed Response Units attended and found a large hostile crowd. A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s were arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. A second man, in his 40s, was arrested for disorderly behaviour. All three remain in police custody. The victim was treated in hospital. The reference is 1655 14/06/26.

Shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday, a man was attacked by two other men on Moyard Parade and struck on the head with a spiked object. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Police are asking anyone with information or footage to come forward. The reference is 1710 14/06/26.

In a separate incident on Sunday 14 June on Suffolk Road, a 40-year-old man appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday charged with rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment. The court heard that a 24-year-old woman went to his home and was allegedly attacked. Footage from the woman's phone and a video call to a friend in England led to police being contacted. The man was remanded in custody to appear again on 7 July.
