Murder Investigation Launched After East Belfast Assault
Police have launched a murder investigation after a 51-year-old man died following an assault during a break-in at an apartment building in east Belfast.
The victim has been named as Nicholas Gordon. He was attacked in the Holywood Road area in the early hours of Tuesday, 12 May.
Police received a report of the assault at around 8.25am that morning. Officers believe the attack occurred at approximately 4.45am.
Emergency services, including the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, attended the scene. Gordon was taken to hospital, where he later died.
A 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. Both were released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Major Investigation Team are leading the case. They have appealed for anyone with information, including dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 224 of 12/05/26.
