Assisi Animal Sanctuary in Discussions for Children’s Television Programme as Volunteer Week Celebrated
A County Down animal shelter is in early talks to take part in an educational television programme for children. Assisi Animal Sanctuary confirmed that discussions are under way with a children’s television producer about a programme focusing on the relationships between pets and their owners.
The charity said it hopes the opportunity can educate and inspire younger audiences about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership and the role animals play in people’s lives. No further details of the potential programme have been released.
Assisi marked Volunteer Week across Northern Ireland by thanking the people who give their time to the sanctuary. Volunteers help care for animals at the site, foster pets, support retail outlets and assist with fundraising and community events.
Alex Harbinson, chair of Assisi, said volunteers are central to the charity’s work and their commitment makes a significant difference to animals every day.
Looking ahead, the sanctuary is preparing for its annual Doggy Reunion Day, set for later in the summer. The event brings together dogs that have been rehomed through Assisi and the families who have adopted them. Mr Harbinson described it as a celebration of rehoming successes and the bond between pets and owners.
Alongside these activities, the charity continues to improve its facilities and concentrate on rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals from across Northern Ireland. Mr Harbinson acknowledged the challenges many charities face, but expressed confidence that the support of volunteers, donors and local communities provides a strong foundation for the future.
Updates on the Doggy Reunion and other events will be published on Assisi’s website and social media channels.
