Park Golf Facility Planned for Newcastle’s Islands Park
A new golf facility could open at Islands Park in Newcastle by summer 2027, aiming to provide an affordable experience for all ages and abilities.
Councillors on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Active and Healthy Communities Committee will on Monday consider a proposal to approve the development in partnership with Royal County Down Golf Club.
The project, described in a committee report as a Park Golf Experience, would see the installation of tee boxes and putting greens within the park. The club would be responsible for installing and maintaining the golf infrastructure under a licence agreement, while the council would continue to maintain the wider site.
The report states the facility is intended to be accessible to schools, youth groups, older people and disability groups. It is expected to support physical activity, social inclusion and community engagement, as well as enhancing visitor amenities in the area.
If approved, the facility would become operational in summer 2027.
