Irish Catholic bishops have condemned violent attacks on migrants in Belfast following a stabbing incident earlier this week. The disorder broke out off the Antrim Road on Monday and has since affected other areas in Northern Ireland.

During their summer meeting at Saint Patrick's College in Maynooth, the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference noted that homes and businesses owned by migrants appeared to be deliberately targeted. They described the nature of the attacks as deeply troubling.

The bishops said a just society is one that effectively welcomes newcomers, combats racism and rejects divisive political rhetoric. They urged the public to support the Police Service of Northern Ireland and community leaders as they work to restore order over the summer months.
