Vintage tractor run to tour Northern Ireland for Cancer Focus
A convoy of pre-1990 vintage tractors will depart from Jubilee Road in Newtownards on August 19 at the start of the Six Counties Tractor Run. The four-day journey will cover all six counties of Northern Ireland and aims to raise awareness and vital funds for Cancer Focus NI.
Thomas Breadon, an event organiser from Donaghadee, said the diagnosis of a close friend prompted him to create a run bigger than anything he had organised before. The charitys support services became more important to him through that experience, and he saw the tractor run as a way to give back while bringing the community together.
Cancer Focus Northern Ireland provides services including counselling, family support, art therapy, group programmes, specialist bra and swimwear fittings, and a patient driving service. Each year the charity helps thousands of people across Northern Ireland.
The route will go from Newtownards to Armagh for the first overnight stop, then on to Enniskillen with a second overnight in Irvinestown. The convoy will continue north to Limavady before finishing the final leg back to Newtownards on August 22.
Local businesses are sponsoring the event, and organisers are asking the public to come out along the route to support the drivers and the cause.
