A weekend festival in Enniskillen offered a programme of talks and workshops by professional comic book artists and writers.

Held over two days in June, Enniskillen Comic Fest included sessions on digital illustration, the revival of classic British strips, and the appeal of superhero stories for younger readers.

Neil Roberts led a session demonstrating how he develops polished artwork for major franchises, from initial sketches to finished pieces.

A panel titled Outside the Box! featured Abigail Harding and Davy Francis, with writer Michael Carroll moderating, and examined comics that move beyond traditional superhero formulas.

Jimmy Broxton and Michael Lark discussed the impact of striking visuals and the relationship between art and narrative in a talk called Whoa… Now, That Is Nice!

Tom Foster and Michael Carroll later explored the challenges of resurrecting The Trigan Empire, a classic British comic strip, for new audiences decades after its original run.

The following day, Nathan Stockman, Ian Churchill, and Michael Carroll addressed the trend of junior versions of established heroes such as Spider-Boy, Teen Titans, and Ms. Marvel, and how younger protagonists allow creators to address contemporary themes within familiar universes.

A final session saw Kev Hopgood, Dave Windett, and Ben Willsher reflect on their experiences working professionally on characters they had admired since childhood.

The event gave local attendees the opportunity to engage directly with creative professionals from the comics industry.
