Derry man banned from driving and given probation for series of traffic offences
A 26-year-old Derry man has been disqualified from driving and ordered to complete probation after he admitted a series of motoring offences spanning several months.
John Paul Muldoon, of Galliagh Park, appeared before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Friday to answer charges relating to three separate incidents.
The first incident occurred on 31 May of the previous year, when an off-duty Police Service of Northern Ireland officer observed a vehicle being driven at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.
On 4 January this year, police approached a car in a car park and noted that the windows had an illegal tint. Officers reported a strong smell of cannabis as they neared the vehicle. Muldoon, who was the driver, became aggressive and drove off rapidly. His wing mirror struck the body-worn camera of one officer during the departure. He was located later and arrested. When asked about the cannabis smell, he told police the odour was in the air and that everyone was smoking it.
The court also heard that on 18 May, Muldoon drove erratically and went through a red light on Strand Road.
For the offences, Muldoon was sentenced to 18 months of probation, disqualified from driving for 18 months, and fined £150.
