A 36-year-old man faces 12 charges after driving a car into a house in Derry's Altcar Park area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7. Police arrived at 2.40am following reports of an ongoing event.

Officers encountered the man holding an axe while he drove the vehicle into the residential property. Four people inside the house suffered no physical injuries. The building and a nearby car received damage.

Police deployed incapacitant spray twice. The man then drew a knife and kept ramming the structure. Officers fired an attenuating energy projectile, striking his leg.

The man received arrest before 4am. He appeared in Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 9.

Charges comprise aggravated burglary, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, four counts of threatening or abusive behaviour, threats to kill, and criminal damage. Further charges involve dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and interference with vehicles.

The Public Prosecution Service will examine the charges under standard procedure.
