Parades Commission restricts pro-Palestine march near Scarva
The Parades Commission has approved a pro-Palestine march from Lurgan to Newry on 6 June but has banned participants from entering Scarva village.
The route must follow the canal towpath, with no deviation permitted and no one allowed to join the march at Scarva.
Organisers must not display flags or emblems and must not chant or sing while passing the village.
A sponsored walk by Markethill Volunteer Flute Band has also been approved, but its start time has been delayed until 2.30pm to avoid direct contact with the earlier march.
A counter-protest by Scarva Concerned Residents has been permitted, subject to conditions on conduct and behaviour.
The Commission ruled that all three events are sensitive and issued directions covering assembly, dispersal, and participant behaviour.
Local unionist representatives and residents had urged the Commission to prevent the march from passing through the area, citing disorder during a similar event last year.
The organisers stated that the march is a peaceful, community-led event with no connection to republican activity.
Residents and politicians have called on the Secretary of State to intervene following the decision.
