The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency released provisional data on registered deaths for the week ending 22 May 2026.

302 deaths were registered during the week, four fewer than the 306 recorded the previous week.

The agency estimated expected deaths at 347 for the same period, resulting in 45 fewer deaths than projected.

Of the 302 deaths, 144 were male and 158 were female. Expected figures were 179 for males and 169 for females.

By 22 May 2026, a total of 7,649 deaths had been registered in Northern Ireland. 3,470 occurred in hospital, 1,341 in care homes, and 2,838 at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

Deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia totalled 37 for the week, bringing the 2026 figure to date to 1,403.

217 deaths occurred during the week ending 22 May, including those registered up to 27 May.
